Inventing history

This family with two small children wanted to renovate a newly built villa and have the rooms naturally flow into each other. The floors were relayed so that the rooms could flow into each other in a more beautiful manner. For the kitchen we choose a warm antique terracotta tile. We had to find a way to connect the girls’ playroom on the second floor with the kitchen below. By placing a mezzanine construction with a glass banister, the kitchen and playroom almost become one spacious area. This solution required an astonishing level of spatial insight, something that many interior designers have, but rarely at such a magnificent level as that of Bart de Beule. The new house looks exactly as the client had envisioned, a house from the old days, with verdigris aged over time.
